Editor’s Note: CrewSignal uses public records to compare how unions structure, negotiate, communicate, and protect Flight Attendants during mergers and representation proceedings. It may raise questions supported by the record; it will not fabricate facts or state conclusions the evidence cannot establish. This report is informational and does not constitute legal, investment, or merger advice.
Status Summary
CWA-AFA’s October 23 recap reports that the joint reserve survey closed earlier in the week. Its editor’s note updates the copied October 19 text that still describes the survey as open. The reminder had announced an October 20 deadline at noon Pacific for both pre-merger groups. Closure is a step in gathering bargaining input, not publication of results or agreement on joint reserve rules.
An October 21 hotel-committee recap describes a meeting held October 12. The union says the committee merged in October 2025, while certain hotel operations remain separate until JCBA ratification. A combined committee therefore does not establish a common hotel operation or completed Flight Attendant integration.
The published bargaining schedules differ: the September 14 Session 19 notice lists October 26–28, while the October 23 recap lists October 27–29. No dated clarification resolving that discrepancy was identified. Both describe future negotiations, not a completed session.
Integration Dashboard
- The NMB’s April 11, 2025 certification of CWA-AFA for the combined Flight Attendants craft or class remains a carry-forward representation milestone. Alaska’s October 29, 2025 announcement of FAA single-operating-certificate receipt is a separate operational milestone. Neither establishes JCBA ratification or common work rules.
- The hotel recap distinguishes legacy-Alaska issues, including temporary LIH relocations and HNL noise complaints, from legacy-Hawaiian JFK ground-transport delays. It also discusses a possible amenities survey rather than reporting a survey launch or results. These are attributed committee updates, not negotiated changes to hotel standards.
- Interest-based bargaining training was announced for October 14–15 in Seattle with an NMB mediator. No October 17–23 public account confirming attendance or completion was identified in the bounded review. The earlier schedule is not evidence of completion, a formal mediation case or a substantive agreement.
- The transition protocol effective August 9, 2024 directs delivery of the integrated seniority list on the JCBA effective date. No new notable public reference establishing JCBA ratification, integrated-list delivery, survey results or a negotiated joint reserve provision was identified for October 17–23. This limited public record does not rule out private bargaining or committee work.
CrewSignal Watch Points
- Which published bargaining dates will the parties confirm, and will their next dated account document attendance and the use of interest-based bargaining?
- What survey findings and proposed reserve provisions will be released, and how will they address differences between the legacy reserve systems?
- Which hotel processes will be combined, which will remain separate, and how will the committee distinguish contractual minimums from proposed amenity improvements?
- When will the parties separately document a tentative JCBA, ratification, its effective date, seniority-list delivery and implementation of common scheduling and work rules?
