Status Summary
CWA-AFA’s September 14 bargaining update described the September 8–10 joint-contract session for pre-merger Alaska and Hawaiian Flight Attendants. Management responded on Grievance Procedures and Training, presented a new proposal on Performance Based Pay and Retirement, and received union proposals addressing legacy retiree pass privileges and retiree health insurance. No tentative agreement on those sections was announced.
The parties also agreed to explore Interest-based Bargaining for selected difficult subjects. National Mediation Board-led training was scheduled for October 14–15, the reserve survey was expected in October, and the next bargaining session was scheduled for October 26–28. Seniority and Charters remained on hold pending bargaining over related subjects.
Two exact-week legacy Alaska administration matters underscored that same-union representation has not yet produced common work rules. On September 15, CWA-AFA objected to an October 1 timekeeping policy for California-based pre-merger Alaska Flight Attendants and demanded that management halt or postpone the rollout and bargain. On September 16, the pre-merger Alaska Reserve Committee reported work on new-hire onboarding, reserve resources, pay concerns, assignment-order disputes, and contract compliance.
CrewSignal identified no new exact-week Flight Attendant certification, integrated-seniority-list implementation milestone, or additional single-operating-certificate development. The remaining Flight Attendant integration path continued through JCBA bargaining, seniority administration, training, benefits, scheduling, bases, and enforcement of legacy agreements during the transition.

- The Reserve Committee recap likewise applied only to pre-merger Alaska Flight Attendants and addressed legacy-contract administration.
- The NMB had already found a single transportation system and certified CWA-AFA for the combined Flight Attendants craft or class.
- Same-union continuity avoided a contested representation election but did not itself harmonize training, reserve, grievance, benefit, scheduling, base, or seniority rules.
- No new exact-week integrated-seniority-list implementation milestone was identified.
CrewSignal Watch Points
- Watch whether Interest-based Bargaining accelerates agreement on difficult combined-contract subjects without reducing member transparency or enforceable protections.
- Does same-union continuity produce a sufficiently timely common agreement when legacy administration disputes continue after combined certification?
- Watch whether management bargains over the California timekeeping policy and whether any resolution remains legacy-specific or becomes relevant to combined policy design.
- Watch the October reserve survey for a clear comparison of the two systems, meaningful member participation, and proposed language protecting both legacy groups.
- Watch for movement on Seniority and for member-facing explanations of effects on bidding, bases, training, and aircraft assignments.
- Watch the October 26–28 session for progress on Grievance, Training, Retirement, benefits, domiciles, commuter policy, and other unresolved sections.
