Status Summary
Alaska Air Group used its August 6 impact report to establish a unified 2030 sustainability and governance framework for Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and Horizon Air. The company also recapped the Alaska / Hawaiian single operating certificate and single passenger service system as completed integration milestones. The report is evidence of continued enterprise-level integration, but it did not announce a new Flight Attendant JCBA, integrated-seniority-list implementation step, work-assignment agreement, or representation proceeding.
On August 3, the pre-merger Alaska CWA-AFA Benefits Committee published an internal union meeting recap identifying benefit terminations after leave, payroll-deduction errors, concurrent workers’ compensation and FMLA administration, a maternity-leave coverage gap, and intermittent-leave guidance as continuing concerns. Management did not participate in that meeting, so the recap documents legacy Alaska administration issues rather than a negotiated combined-carrier policy.
No new public JCBA, seniority-list, NMB representation, or Flight Attendant training, scheduling, base, or benefits-harmonization milestone was identified for the week. The latest public joint-negotiations report remained the July 24 update addressing insurance benefits, training, and reserve input.
Integration Dashboard
- Alaska Air Group established a shared 2030 impact framework for Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and Horizon Air.
- The August 6 company report recapped the single operating certificate and single passenger service system as completed Alaska / Hawaiian milestones.
- A unified corporate framework does not itself establish common Flight Attendant work rules, benefits, scheduling, bases, or seniority administration.
- The August 3 benefits recap applied to pre-merger Alaska Flight Attendants and arose from an internal CWA-AFA meeting without management participation.
- The latest public JCBA update remained the July 24 report of work on insurance benefits, training, and reserve-related member input.
- The NMB has already found a single transportation system for the combined Flight Attendants craft or class and certified CWA-AFA as the combined representative.
- Because the same union represented both legacy groups and received the combined certification, a new representation election or authorization-card campaign is not required merely to preserve that certification.
- The remaining Flight Attendant integration path continues through the JCBA, seniority administration, training, benefits, scheduling, bases, and enforceable work-assignment rules.
- The planned use of Alaska-branded Boeing 737 aircraft with Honolulu-based crews on Neighbor Island flying remained a material work-assignment and implementation issue.
CrewSignal Watch Points
- Does same-union continuity translate into a faster, more transparent, and more enforceable JCBA and implementation process, or does it merely avoid a contested representation election?
- Watch the August 24–26 bargaining session for movement on insurance benefits, training, reserve, domiciles, seniority, and other remaining JCBA subjects.
- Watch whether the leave, payroll-deduction, maternity-coverage, and FMLA concerns identified by the pre-merger Alaska committee become subjects of combined-carrier harmonization or negotiated language.
- Watch whether the Neighbor Island Boeing 737 plan produces a negotiated bridge agreement, grievance, training protocol, or other clarification protecting the work and seniority interests of both legacy groups.
- Watch for publication and implementation of the integrated seniority list and for clear member-facing explanations of how it affects bidding, bases, training, and work assignment.
