Status This Week
No written Piedmont bargaining update dated during the 2026.08.22–2026.08.28 reporting window was located. The public AFA newsletter archive continued to show August 12 notices for the August 15 post-negotiations Zoom and crew walk as its newest negotiations-related entries, without a written account of the August 12–14 session.
Contract timing: Public CWA-AFA sources say the prior four-year agreement was ratified on 2022.03.02 and identify March 2 as the contract anniversary. That supports 2026.03.02 as a working amendable-date marker, although the formal duration clause was not located in the sources reviewed. As of 2026.08.28, 5 months and 26 days—179 days—had elapsed beyond that marker. The opening proposal is dated 2025.11.17, 9 months and 11 days—284 days—before this report.
Process Signals
- The newsletter archive documents member-briefing notices around the August 12–14 session but provides no durable post-session proposal or tentative-agreement account. The public Piedmont negotiations page also continued to display an older “Next Session: June 8–10” notice, limiting the usefulness of the carrier’s standing public tracker.
- The last detailed written update located reported 15 tentatively agreed sections. CrewSignal does not increase or reduce that count without a later written bargaining recap.
- CWA-AFA’s PBS explainer continues to state that preferential bidding is a company proposal, has not been finalized or implemented, and would be voted on only as part of a complete tentative agreement. Piedmont is not identified as a continuing CWA-AFA mediation case in the NMB FY2027 budget justification, so the defensible public classification remains direct negotiations.
CrewSignal Assessment
Piedmont’s 179-day post-marker period is shorter than the long-running mediation cases, and the record shows an opener, repeated sessions, at least 15 tentative agreements, member education and notices for post-session briefings. The missing written August result nevertheless prevents readers from measuring what the latest session accomplished.
CWA-AFA’s multi-carrier experience may be especially relevant to PBS and scheduling language, where comparisons across contracts can expose hidden tradeoffs. That advantage is most credible when the union publishes current section counts, proposal responsibility and unresolved issues in a durable form rather than relying principally on live briefings.
